“Daughter Songs” includes two films on relationships between women and their parents over distances of migration, separation, and loss.
The first, “Miam, Johana, Gabriela”, encounters a group of women working in the kitchen of a Mexican restaurant in London. They share intimate experience: Miam tells of the death of her father and sings to Johana’s father in Guatemala over a video call.
In the second film, “Mother,” the artist’s mother in Russia, trying to remember a line of a poem by Marina Tsvetaeva, recollects the burial of her father.
